The STA offers many ways for members to get involved.
Committees for the 2019-2020 School Year. If you are interested in joining a committee or have questions, please email the committee chair.
The By-law Committee will review the STA bylaws and constitution to recommend changes that need to be approved by the general membership. It will also solicit suggestions from membership and schedule two general meetings to ratify the proposed changes.

Somerville Educators for Sanctuary Schools Committee
The SESS Committee will work to advocate for and support policies and practices in our district and community that support immigrant and undocumented students and families. This group will work in collaboration with the district Sanctuary Schools group.

Class Size and Equity Committee
The Class Size and Equity Committee will look at issues of class size and equity throughout the year. It will collect data about current practices, do research on best practices, and explore avenues to advocate for policy changes.

The Grievance Committee will review potential breaches of contract and determine the appropriate course of action. This committee is only open to members who have been appointed by the president.

Political Action Committee
The Political Action Committee take on tasks relating to local, regional, and national politics. For example, the committee recently sponsored a candidates forum for the contested Somerville school committee races.
